SC GOP, Dems equally optimistic on first congressional district race

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The race to fill the House seat left empty by current Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., entered its final day on Monday as former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and businesswoman Elizabeth Colbert Busch set out to convince registered voters to turn out in Tuesday’s special election. The two have been nearly tied throughout the campaign, according to various polls, but officials in both parties are confident that their candidates will win.
